Crushed Dryer Vent Hose
A crushed transition hose behind the dryer is one of the most common — and most overlooked — causes of weak airflow. Even a partial kink can double dry times.
Why hoses get crushed
Flexible foil and plastic hoses kink easily when the dryer is pushed back against the wall. Over time the dryer vibrates and the hose collapses further. Older foil also tears at folds, releasing lint into the wall.
Signs of a crushed hose
- Long dry times even after a cleaning
- Lint piling up behind the dryer
- Hose visibly bent or compressed
- Dryer cabinet hot to the touch
- Burning smell
Our fix
- Pull the dryer fully out
- Remove the damaged hose
- Install a short straight run of semi-rigid or rigid metal
- Seal connections with proper clamps and foil tape (no screws that catch lint)
- Set the dryer back with proper clearance
Why metal is better
Smooth metal duct holds its shape, supports stronger airflow, and traps less lint. It also makes future cleaning easier and safer.

Frequently Asked Questions
+Can I just straighten the hose?
Sometimes briefly, but if the hose is creased it will collapse again. Replacement is the fix.
+How long does the repair take?
Usually under an hour for a straightforward case.
+Do you replace plastic vent hoses?
Yes. Plastic is unsafe near a heat source and should be replaced.
+Will you also clean the rest of the vent?
We can. Most homes benefit from cleaning at the same time as a hose replacement.
